Today the Fulbright arranged a visit to the Hungarian National Academy of Sciences, which has a nice building on the Danube. After a presentation on Hungarian folk music (best line: “Some people called him Hungarian, or French, or Italian, or German, or English, but that debate is settled now. He was Hungarian!”), we saw some books so old that they were handled only with gloves, although not necessarily unroughly, and some newer books, like a “bibliography of bibliographies.”

The BSM spring semester welcome party was also today. Uneventful, except that at least one person I expected to see there wasn’t, which I speculate was because the Hungarian national airline collapsed today and grounded all its flights.
