I taught my first Putnam seminar today. Being not sure who’d come or how strong they’d be, I prepared problems of a range of difficulties. Unfortunately, even the low end of that range seems to have overshot the participants; oops.

(BSM Director Dezso” says that, of this seminar and the two BSM problem solving classes, this should be the hardest, and advises me to advertise the other two in my next class. This is unfortunate, since I’m not sure those problem solving classes’d be good for Putnam-1-ish problems either, but it’ll be more fun to teach a slightly more advanced class.)
